EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 6, 2022) – Finalizing a challenging stretch to end their season, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo fell to the Bucknell Bison 22-10 Sunday in Lewisburg.
After going 1-11 in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference a year ago, the Mountaineers improved to 6-10 in league play in 2022.
Chrysostomos Valavanis led the offensive charge for the Mount Sunday, scoring half of the team's goals.
Michael Lemishko added a hat trick of his own.
Assists came on eight of the 10 goals, led by
Kiahi Horan with five.
Sherif Hosni earned the start in goal, rejecting nine Bison attempts and adding four steals.
First quarters have been unfriendly to the Mountaineers and Bucknell showed no mercy with six scores. They duplicated the effort in the second period, building a 12-6 halftime lead. After the Mount held firm in the third, Bucknell used a 7-2 final frame to pull away.
Mount St. Mary's completes their third regular season an even .500 at 13-13. Postseason play occurs the third weekend in November with the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championships, hosted by Fordham.
