EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 5, 2022) – Riding a first quarter shutout, Mount St. Mary's men's water polo defeated Johns Hopkins by a 16-12 final Wednesday.
The duo of
Tommaso Baldineti and
Joseph Maxson propelled the victory, with Baldineti scoring seven times to bring his season total up to 90, and Maxson rejecting a season-high 15 saves.
Michael Lemishko recorded his third hat trick, going a perfect 3-for-3. Maxson also led in assists with three, and trio of Mountaineers added three steals each.
As a unit, the Mount shot 44 percent for the game. Counter attacks and 6v5 opportunities proved vital, accounting for 11 of the team's goals. When a man up, the team scored on five of seven chances. Hopkins stayed close thanks to penalties. Handed five shots, the Blue Jays converted four of them.
Mount St. Mary's blasted out to a 6-0 lead by the end of period one. After playing even in the second quarter, the Mountaineers used key moments to hold off the Jays, finishing the final 16 minutes with six goals.
With the victory, the Mount improves to 11-6 (4-3 MAWPC this season).
