EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 26, 2022) – Surrendering two fast scores and obtaining a red card that reduced the team to 10 men, Mount St. Mary's men's soccer were unable to climb out of an early hole before ultimately falling to Quinnipiac, 5-0, at Waldron Family Stadium.
With the result, the Mountaineers' record stands at 7-7-1 (3-4-1 MAAC) for the season. They hold seventh place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with 10 points.
The Mount had 11 chances with two landing on goal thanks to
Karamo Bah and
Raul Luna. Scoring leaders
Ruben Kiers and
Jesus Salazar tallied three shots apiece.
Noah Silverman made an immediate presence on the game for the Bobcats with two goals in under four minutes of play. The first goal sailed in from the left side of the box, with the process repeating a little over two minutes later via a long pass from Jared Smith.
A third effort was met with a serious challenge from
Ammit Bhogal, judged by the referee to deny an obvious goal opportunity and warranting a red card.
Mount St. Mary's managed to keep the game at 2-0 until the half despite playing man down, but Quinnipiac put forth a third goal early in the second period. Tomas Svecula benefited from a Silverman cross for a 3-0 Bobcats advantage. Leading MAAC scorer David Bercado got on the scoreboard followed by Svecula's second minutes later to wrap up the scoring.
The 2022 home schedule completes Saturday (Oct. 29) against the Iona Gaels at noon. Before the start of the match, the Mount honors eight members of the team on Senior Day.
