Charlottesville, Va. (October 19, 2022)—The Mount St. Mary's men's tennis team competed at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship today hosted at the University of Virginia.
Filippos Zachiotis earned a win to advance to the Round of 32 in singles action to highlight the day while he and teammate
Jarrett Karnibad advanced in the doubles bracket as well.
Zachiotis edged Naissim Fenjiro (Saint Joseph's), 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, to move on to the second round where he fell to Bucknell's Adamantios Stravakas in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-1). In the remainder of singles play,
Christos Dagklis fell to Bucknell's Oscar Bain (6-2, 7-5),
Elliot Stevens lost to George Mason's Herman Jentoft (7-6 , 6-1),
Jarrett Karnibad lost to Radford's Robert Hagen (6-4, 6-3),
Luke Papayoanou lost to George Mason's Momin Khan (6-2, 6-3) and
Giovanni Abriola lost to Duquesne's Jin Dassanayk (6-1, 6-2).
In the doubles draw, Zachiotis and Karnibad advanced to the round of 16 with an 8-3 win over George Mason's Dustin Ha and Hayden Postin while Stevens and Abriola were edged by George Mason's Niza Simunyola and Zavan Fahim, 8-6.
