EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 16, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's baseball saw another early lead fade away in the late innings, as Fairleigh Dickinson surged ahead in the fifth. The Knights added five more for good measure, defeating the Mount 10-4 Friday in Teaneck, N.J.
The Mountaineers fall to 5-21 this season and see their losing streak extend to 11 straight games. FDU broke a seven-game slide with the win.
With three runs in the second, the Mount took charge with the offense cooking.
Thomas Savastio,
Tyler Long and
Brady Drawbaugh rattled off consecutive run-producing hits. Drawbaugh's double scored Long to give the visitors a 4-3 lead.
Starter
Jordan Geber held the Knights at bay for an innings, but FDU rallied to tie in the third. The home side took the lead on an unearned fielder's choice. From there, FDU's pitching quieted the Mount's bats. Starter Joey Kosowsky went seven innings while reliever Brendan Medoro closed out the final two frames for the save.
Any chance for a ninth inning comeback were squashed when the Knights strung together five in the eighth to win the contest going away.
Drawbaugh, Savastio and
Myles Nicholson recorded multi-hit games for the Mountaineers.
Game two of the series is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Fairleigh Dickinson.
