BALTIMORE, Md. (February 20, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's swimmers and divers teams had a tough showing in their 2021 season opener, falling to rival Loyola. The men's team fell by a score of 189-73 while the women succumbed to a 197-75 final.
Strong performances from the Mount came from
Kira Buchler, who took first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 59.50 seconds, and aided the 400 freestyle relay to a 3:44.40 clip. On the men's side, freshman
Jason Fitch finished in 53.96 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke to come in second.
The men's team of
Peter Jones,
Nicholas Santorelli,
Jacob Wallace and
Jonah Hancock helped the point total with the men's 400 yard freestyle relay, netting a time of 3:18.98. Wallace delivered a fine individual effort with a 58.43 second 100 yard breaststroke in his first collegiate meet.
Both teams look to rebound next Saturday (Feb. 27) when they travel to Towson.
