Trio of Divers Achieve New Standards at H2Ounds Invitational

BALTIMORE, Md. (December 4, 2021) – Three Mount St. Mary's divers made the trip to Charm City Saturday, and each brought back new personal bests in their efforts at the Loyola H2Ounds Invitational.

Leading the group was junior Montana Griffith. Competing in both the 3 meter and 1 meter events, she set a PR on Friday, earning a total score of 168.75 in the 3 meter. The Howard County native followed that with a 154.80 in the 1 meter on Saturday.

A pair of freshmen also set the bar higher. Patrick Rankin performed in both events as well, setting PR's in each one. He earned a score of 132.25 Friday in the 1 meter and a 112.15 in the 3 meter Saturday. Fellow first-year Rory Smist dove for the first time as a collegian, setting a score of 134.80 in the 1 meter competition.

Divers perform a series of maneuvers which earn a combined score from a panel of judges. The sum of all the dives gets added up to determine their total.

The entire Mount St. Mary's swimming & diving team returns on January 16th, when they travel to Lafayette.
