EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 7, 2021) – Freshman
Dominik Topolsky turned in the most sensational performance as a Mountaineer, scoring once on three shots in an active game for the Frenchman. But the Mount conceded three times to Fairleigh Dickinson, dropping their season finale 3-1 Sunday at Waldron Family Stadium.
Topolsky's strike came out of nowhere, delivering a quick strike counter from 30 yards out. The ball sailed off his right foot and landed beyond the reach of the FDU keeper into the upper left corner. For the freshman, the shot serves for a memorable first collegiate goal.
The Mount held on to the lead for seven minutes before a Knights equalized. What appeared to be a missed touch turned out to be perfect, as Jeremy Opong found the ball and the right corner. Two more FDU goals in the second half planted their stake as the No. 3 seed at next week's Northeast Conference Tournament.
Ethan Russell started in net and registered seven saves, the second most for him this year. The team as a unit fired eight shots, but Topolsky earned the lone shot on goal.
Before kickoff, the Mount honored three seniors –
Tommy Sidleck and goalkeepers
Andrew Chwalik and
Adam Siviter – along with graduate students
Jack Shearer and
Dominique Giovannini.
Mount St. Mary's finishes the year at 3-15 (1-8 NEC).
