ANNAPOLIS, Md. (November 19, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo had to face the top seeded Fordham Rams head on to open the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference East Championships. It was a rude welcome on their first trip, as the Rams defeated the Mountaineers, 20-6.
After a quiet first half,
Jason O'Donnell emerged as the scoring leader with the lone multi-goal game.
Marko Kruska was busy all day battling the high powered Fordham offense, but managed 10 saves along the way.
Fordham jumped out to a 5-0 run to open the game.
Michael Lemishko broke the ice with a goal from the top position. The Mount made a run in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to two. But the Rams countered with a 3-0 run to lead 9-4 at half.
The third quarter erased any doubts that the top seed would prevail. Fordham extended their run, scoring four consecutive goals until O'Donnell fired home a shot in a 6-on-5. The eighth-seeded Mountaineers mustered one more goal to round out the contest, but the Rams tacked on six for good measure.
Mount St. Mary's still aspires for a fifth place finish at the MAWPC Championships, facing the loser of Bucknell and Wagner at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 20).
