EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 14, 2021) – Sophomore
Jason O'Donnell passed 100 goals for the season on the final day of the regular season for the men's water polo team. Mount St. Mary's dropped both contests, falling 13-10 to Navy and 11-5 to Bucknell.
Sitting at 99 goals coming into the day, O'Donnell hit the century mark with 5:46 remaining against Navy. He finished the day with four scores to register 103 goals for the year.
Kiahi Horan posted the most goals between the two games, hitting the back of the net five times.
Trailing 12-6 after three quarters in the opening game, the Mount made a charge to try and secure their second conference win.
Jason Fitch set the tone, starting a 3-0 run produced over the course of a minute and a half. Hope held on until Navy managed to score around the halfway point. Mount tallied one final goal before the last horn.
Chances still looked promising in the nightcap when
Michael Lemishko gave the Mount a 1-0 lead against Bucknell. But the Bison shored up their defense, limiting the home team to four goals the rest of the way. A 3-0 run to end the first quarter turned the tide as Bucknell improved to an even record.
Mount St. Mary's finishes the regular season with a mark of 7-21 (1-11 MAWPC East). Conference tournament play is next weekend in Annapolis. Final seeding and opponents are determined later this week.
