EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 9, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo surrendered a fast start to their opponents for the second straight game, as the Wagner Seahawks rolled out to a 5-0 lead. The home side never looked back, winning the contest 20-12.
The Mount falls to 5-10 (1-3 MAWPC) this season.
Jason O'Donnell led the goal count for the Mountaineers, scoring four times.
Kiahi Horan and
Zach Fischer registered hat tricks with three goals each and
Eli Thalos had a multi-goal game, scoring twice.
Wagner averaged a goal per minute at the start, building their 5-0 lead across five minutes. O'Donnell got the Mount on the board with 3:01 left in the opening quarter.
From then on, the sides played mostly level. Wagner built their lead by a single goal every eight minutes. Fischer earned all his goals in the second half, while O'Donnell's four set the Mount's pace in the first half.
Mount St. Mary's travels to New England next weekend for the Harvard Invite. On October 16
th they will challenge MIT and Brown before tackling Connecticut College and Harvard on the 17
th.
