Devin Smith wins the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational after shooting a 65 (-7) today to have a total score of 133 (-11), while the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team wins the team competition after shooting a combined score of 278 (-10) to have a final score of 562 (-14).
Smith led the Mountaineers to victory after shooting eight birdies, including five in a row through the eighth to 12th holes. He finished six strokes ahead of Colgate's Robbie Herzig, who shot a final score of 139 (-5). Sophomore
Juan Fradera finished tied for fourth place after shooting a 72 (E) to have a final score of 141 (-3). Freshmen
Aaron Sorkin shot a 70 (-2) in the second round to finish tied for 14th place with a score of 143 (-1). Sophomore
Hank Schaefer finished in 22nd place with a total score of 145 (+1) after shooting a 71 (-1).
Sergio Quijano Sanin finished tied for 38th place, shooting a total score of 149 (+5) after shooting a 76 (+4) today, with senior
Michael Robinson tied for 44th place with a final score of 150 (+6) after putting up a 72 (E) in the second round. Freshman
Devin Peart shoots a 75 (+3) today to finish tied for 64th place with a total score of 155 (+11). Senior
Matthew Kinsey rounded out the Mountaineers shooting a 77 (+5) to have a score of 161 (+17) to finish in 79th place.
The Mount heads to Lewisburg, Pa., at the Bucknell Golf Club to compete in the Bucknell Fall Invitational on October 11-12.
