EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 3, 2021) – With a third place finish for the men's team and a fifth place effort by the women, the Mount St. Mary's swimming & diving team got off a strong start at the New England Catholic Invitational. The men's team secured 418 points and the women totaled 280 points.
Highlighting the men's performance were the swimmers in the 100 yard breaststroke. Freshman
Aidan Grady led the way in his first collegiate meet with a time of 56.89 seconds, earning the win. The mark also ties the eighth best time in men's program history. Following Grady was
Griffin Distler with a runner-up time of 57.90 and
Jacob Wallace and his time of 58.31 to place fourth. All three marks topped the record of the New England Catholic Invitational.
Kira Buchler led the women's team with a pair of top five finishes, including a victory in the 100 yard backstroke. Her time of 57.69 also served as a meet record and ranks fourth on the Mount's all-time list. Buchler also assisted in a pair of top 10 relay finishes.
Additional noteworthy performances include
Valeria Villagran coming in fifth for the 100 butterfly (59.68 seconds) and Distler's time of 2:11.99 in the 200 breaststroke to also rank fifth. Four relay teams also finished in the top five, led by the fourth place finish in the men's 400 freestyle.

Peter Jones swam the race in 3:13.14. Freshman
Gabrielle Joffrion had a successful first meet, placing in the top 10 twice which includes a ninth place time of 11:24.00 for the 1000 freestyle.
Boston College was the winner of their home meet, earning 1,439 points on the women's side and 1,317 points on the men's side.

rd versus VMI. The meet begins at 1 p.m. at the Knott ARCC Swimming Pool.
