Mount Women’s Rugby Falls to Army in Home Opener

EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 2, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's women's rugby could not withstand the Black Knights as Army wins 33-5 earlier this afternoon. The Mount was led by Veronica Blair who scored the only try for the Mountaineers late in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mount started the game well, controlling possession for the first 10 minutes, but Army's Charisma Henry led a counter-attack to give Army a 7-0 lead after Codi Butt made the conversion kick.
  • Army scored their second try of the game ten minutes later when Sydney Schaff scored her only try to make it 12-0. 
  • Army closed out the half on a 14-0 run with Henry scoring her second try and Butt scoring her only try of the game with Butt converting both kicks to give the Black Knights a 26-0 lead at the half. 
  • Army scored their only try of the second half within the first 10 minutes of the second half when Sophia Linder when she broke through the Mount's defense to make it 33-0.
  • The Mount got on the board after Blair got to the outside and reached out and scored the try for the Mountaineers to reach the final score of 33-5.
