EMMITSBURG, Md. (Feb. 18, 2020) - The Mount St. Mary's women's swimming and diving team will be traveling to Long Island in search of the team's first Northeast Conference (NEC) title.
Relays kick off the four-day event Wednesday starting at 6 p.m. The next three days will feature preliminaries at 10 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m. Tickets range from $10-25 for adults and $5-10 for seniors and kids, with Wednesday's relays free to all.
The Mount is looking to improve on an eighth place finish from a year ago. As for the current season, the Mountaineers are 2-3 with a fifth place finish at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational and a seventh place showing at the Northeast Catholic Invitational to open the year.
Sophomore Kira Buchler heads to East Meadow with three placements in the NEC's top 10 rankings. Competing in the backstroke, Buchler ranks second in the 200 meter backstroke (2:03.97), fourth in the 100 backstroke (57.45 seconds) and eighth in the 50 backstroke (27.46 seconds). Valeria Villagran and Juliet Whitman have also made waves in the top 10 with seventh and 10th place spots, respectively, in the 50 meter butterfly.
Additional top performers include Eliza Felos, Jordan Friedman, and Maggie de Tar, all of whom hold top-20 times in the NEC.
This is the 22nd championship contest by the NEC. Central Connecticut State has won the most titles with six, and Bryant comes in as the two-time defending champions.
