EMMITSBURG, Md. (Feb. 18, 2020) - Postseason play starts this weekend for the Mount St. Mary's men's swimming and diving in their fourth season of competition. The squad heads to the Volunteer State for the four-day Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championship.
This is the 12th edition of the CCSA Championships, which goes back to 2008. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time or at the door.
A few diving events kick off the tournament at 3 p.m. Wednesday, with relay and diving finals at 6 p.m. that evening. Over the next three days, preliminary events will start at 10 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m. each night. Per the event's Psych sheet, Mount will have 80 opportunities to score points during the championships.
Senior Will Twizell holds three top ten placements heading into the week. The Australian is second in the 200 Individual Medley (1:50.64), fourth in the 100 meter breaststroke (56.09) and fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:01.93). Joining him in the rankings is Ian Schirra, who is ninth in the 1 meter diving event, and John Wilson, who stands alongside Twizell in the 200 breaststroke.
Mount will be seeking an improvement over a sixth place finish from a season ago. The University of the Incarnate Word is the defending champion with 1,053.5 points in the 2019 CCSA Championships.
