EMMITSBURG, Md. (Jan. 27, 2020) - Mount St. Mary's women's swimming and diving finished Saturday with their second straight victory over the VMI Keydets, while the men fell for the second straight day. The women defeated VMI 141-66 while the men succumbed 131.5-92.5.
As a group, the Mountaineers and Keydets split the wins 12-12. The Mount's women took eight events and the men won four.
The women's team achieved victory in all five freestyle events. Colette Robinson took the 50 free in 30.29 seconds, Maggie deTar won the 100 free in 1:04.08, Jordan Friedman captured the 200 in 2:18.55, Emiley Lynch prevailed with a 4:59.85 in the 400, and Elizabeth Fahrney triumphed in the 800 in 10:08.36.
Other events won by Mount's women include a 50 meter butterfly win of 29.73 seconds by Valeria Villagran and relay wins in the 400 medley and 400 freestyle.
For the men's team, Gregory Afolabi-Brown won the 50 meter butterfly in 26.74 seconds. He was joined by Peter Jones, who earned a 1:00.20 to win the 100 IM, and a win in the 50 meter breaststroke thanks to a 30.20 second performance by John Wilson. The men's 400 medley relay also won with a time of 4:00.38.
The teams wrap up the 2019-2020 regular season at Loyola this coming Saturday (Feb. 1).
