Mount Women's Swimming & Diving Finishes Eighth at NEC Championships

East Meadow, N.Y. (February 16, 2019) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's swimming & diving team closed out the final night of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships on Saturday at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The Mountaineers finished in eighth place with 152 team points.

Bryant scored 863.5 points to claim its second straight title, while Central Connecticut (600 pts) and Saint Francis U (485.5) rounded out the top three. Wagner (473.5) and LIU Brooklyn (377) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, and Sacred Heart (283.5), St. Francis Brooklyn (270), and Mount St. Mary's (152) rounded out the team standings.

Mary Lombardi highlighted the final night with the Mount's top finish at the championships. Lombardi claimed fourth place in the 1650 free with a time of 17:28.51. Haley Bodner placed 17th in the event, touching the wall in 19:32.97.

The Mountaineers had three swimmers qualify for the finals in the 200 fly. Juliet Whitman was the team's top finisher in the event, swimming to a 15th-place finish in 2:12.85. Maggie deTar finished 19th with a time of 2:13.83, and Lizanne Passaro placed 23rd in 2:21.44.

The Mount also had three swimmers reach Saturday night's heats in the 200 breast. Lauren Gullickson earned a 20th-place showing in 2:28.54, Alyssa Felos took 23rd with a time of 2:31.25, and Elizabeth Fahrney finished 24th in 2:35.03.

In the 400 free relay, Jordan Friedman, Valeria Villagran, deTar, and Lombardi combined for a time of 3:37.46 to take eighth place. The relay team of Bodner, Cassie Mann, Eliza Felos, and Gabrielle Benedictis registered a time of 3:47.59 in the event.
