Women's Swimming & Diving Claims Victory Over VMI to Open 2017-18 Campaign

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 6, 2017) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's swimming and diving team won eight of 11 events to post a 120-72 victory over VMI on Friday afternoon in the first meet of the season.

RESULTS

The Mount opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay as the squad of Maddie McGraw, Alyssa Felos, Erin Vopalensky and Maggie deTar clocked in at 4:06.95 for the win.

deTar led the way for the Mountaineers with a pair of victories in individual events on the day. The sophomore took first place in both the 100 (1:02.67) and 200 (2:17.76) freestyle events.

Mount St. Mary's also won two other freestyle events at the meet as Mary Lombardi claimed a win in the 400 free (4:42.67) and Bridget Vaughan registered a first-place performance in the 800 free (10:04.99).

Maddie McGraw won the 50 back (31.56), Lauren Gullickson claimed a first-place finish in the 100 IM (1:12.39) and rookie Valeria Villagran earned her first collegiate victory with the top time in the 50 fly (30.40) to round out the Mount's first-place finishes at the meet.
