SETTING THE SCENE
The Mount St. Mary's University men's tennis team is set for the upcoming three-day Loyola Invitational at the Ridley Athletic Complex spanning September 23-25. The tournament will be a 'Points of the Compass' format, with each team consisting of two players and each round consisting of a doubles match and two singles matches. The winner of the best-of-three advances to the next round.
ABOUT THE MOUNT
The Mount returns to action after competing at the Bucknell Invitational two weeks ago. Every Mount player won at least one match at the invite, and senior Darren Mast advanced the furthest of any Mountaineer, reaching the championship match of flight 2 singles. Mast topped Eli Cerdan of Saint Francis U, Jake Hirschberg of Colgate and teammate Zachary Burau, but was edged by Bucknell's Max McDonald, 7-5, 7-6, in the finals.
Mast also advanced to the championship of flight 2 doubles alongside partner Brandon Wortkotter. The duo downed Colin Kanush and Kyle Gower of Loyola and Bucknell's Andrei Vitiuc and Max Haase, before falling to Franz Luna and Cerdan of Saint Francis U in the finals.
