Emmitsburg, Md. (November 6, 2015) – The Mount St. Mary's University women's swimming team won six events, but fell to Loyola, 148-109, on the Mountaineers Senior Day on Friday. Amanda Moore broke both the program and Mount pool record in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 26.94. She broke her own record of 26.96, which was set earlier this season in the team's victory over Saint Francis U.
The Mount also claimed new records in both relay events. In the 400 medley relay, Maddie McGraw, Lauren Gullickson, Moore and Mary Lombardi combined to swim the event in 4:29.73 to shatter the old program record by over 10 seconds. The 400 free relay squad consisting of Moore, Haley Fournier, Lenna Castro Marquez and Lombardi clocked in at 4:02.72 to set a new program and pool record.
The Mountaineers, who were off to their best start in program history, suffered their first loss of the season and now sit at 4-1 overall.
Mount St. Mary's honored seniors Haley Fournier, Lenna Castro Marquez and Katie Powell with a Senior Day ceremony to honor their contributions and commitment to the program throughout their four years at the Mount.
Fournier claimed a pair of victories at the meet to pace the Mountaineers. In the second event of the night, the 800m freestyle, she led the Mount with a first-place finish in a time of 9:13.82. Fournier also claimed the top spot in the 400m freestyle after clocking in at 4:30.63.
Following Moore's record-breaking swim in the 50m free, Lombardi placed first in the 100m free as the Mount claimed victories in back-to-back events. Lombardi touched the wall in 1:01.50 to earn the top spot.
Sarah Bonson notched the other individual victory of the meet for the team, placing first in the 200 IM in 2:34.11.
Juliette Lacoste and Lombardi registered the Mount's two runner-up finishes of the meet, placing second in the 200 IM and 200 free, respectively.
The Mountaineers are off from competition until Friday, November 20 when they head to Lancaster, Pa. for the two-day Franklin and Marshall Invitational. Action begins at 6:30 on Friday.
