Mount Women's Swimming Remains Fifth at NEC Championships

Cambridge, Mass. (February 20, 2014) – For the second day in a row, a Mount St. Mary's women's swimming record was broken as the Mountaineers maintained fifth place after day two of the Northeast Conference Championships at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Thursday. Erin Regan posted the school's best 500 free time on the day.

The Mount currently has 131 points and is sitting in fifth place. Wagner extended its lead with a two-day total of 297 points, distancing itself from Central Connecticut in second with 214 points. Bryant (207 points) and Saint Francis U (205) remain in striking distance with the Mount ahead of St. Francis Brooklyn (86) and Sacred Heart (85).

Regan's record-setting time of 4:59.80 came in the finals of the 500 free to earn her fifth place overall. Haley Fournier, who set the previous program record of 4:59.84 earlier this season, finished seventh in the 500 free finals in 5:01.59. The duo qualified for the finals earlier in the day when Fournier took fifth in the preliminary round in 5:00.47, and Regan was sixth in 5:02.12.

In the 200 free relay, Regan worked with Amanda Moore, Cat Coppler and Mollie Walsh to earn fourth with a time of 1:36.09, which was the team's best performance of the season and the third-fastest time in school history.

Walsh, Moore, Coppler and Anne Thelen all qualified for the B finals of the 50 free by finishing in the top 16 in the morning prelim session. To clinch spots in the finals, Walsh placed 10th (24.36) in the prelims and Thelen was 11th (24.37). Not far behind was Coppler (25.72) in 14th and Moore grabbing the last spot in the finals in 16th (24.82).

Walsh went on to win the B finals of the 50 free with her best time of the season (24.34). Moore (24.69) took home fourth in the B finals followed closely by Thelen (24.81) in sixth and Coppler (24.83) in seventh.
