Mount Women's Swimming Wins Six Races in Friday's Loss at Loyola

Baltimore (January 31, 2014) – In the final event before the Northeast Conference Championships in mid-February, the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team won six races in a 171-117 loss at Loyola on Friday night.

In the relays, the 200 free relay team comprised of Amanda Moore, Anne Thelen, Mollie Walsh and Erin Regan finished in first place in 1:40.12.

With a strong effort in the individual events as well, Regan added victories in the 500 free (5:15.33) and the 200 fly (2:09.89).

Haley Fournier was also victorious in two events on Friday. The sophomore won the 200 breaststroke (2:31.00), then helped the Mount finish 1-2 in the 400 IM with a winning time of 4:44.08. Fournier was followed closely in the 400 IM by Sarah Bonson, who took second in 4:50.40.

Bonson touched the wall first in the 1000 freestyle (10:59.67) with the second-best time in school history for the event.

Moore's time of 1:59.54 in the 200 free earned her second place overall, while Walsh was second in the 50 free (25.12), as was Thelen in the 100 fly (1:02.14). Checking in less than half a second after Thelen, Moore placed third in the 100 fly (1:02.37).

Fournier, Walsh and Moore teamed with Morgan Runk in the 200 medley relay to put together a second-place time of 1:52.58.

The Mount will now focus its attention on the Northeast Conference Championships Feb. 19-22 in Cambridge, Mass.
