Mount Men's Golf Takes Home Fourth Place at Mount St. Mary's Invitational

Littlestown, Pa. (April 16, 2013) -- Following an impressive first two rounds on Monday, the Mount men's golf team wrapped up fourth place out of 12 at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational at Quail Valley Golf Course with the fourth-best team round of 309 on Tuesday to conclude the 54-hole tournament with 910 strokes. 

Eric Flockhart claimed 10th individually with a three-round total of 224 bookended by his  79 (+7) on Tuesday. Flockhart finished first among the 31 Northeast Conference competitors to lead the Mount to the top score among the six NEC squads in the field. 

Beginning the day in a tie for 24th place, senior Andrew Lawton jumped up 10 spots to finish tied for 14th thanks to Tuesday's 74 (+2), which was the third best round on the day. Lawton birdied the par-4 first hole for the second time of the tournament to complete the three rounds with four birdies and a score of 226. 

Mike Shine followed up yesterday's back-to-back rounds of 75 (+3) with a 77 (+5) for a 227 final score. Shine improved from a tie for 19th to a tie for 16th place. Like Lawton, Shine finished with four total birdies after birdying hole No. 1 during the third round. 

In fourth place on the team and 43rd overall, Michael Pansini fired his second sub-80 round of the tournament with a 79 (+7) on Tuesday. Pansini's total score came out to 240.  

Zach O'Grady completed the 54-hole event with a score of 260 to place fifth for the Mountaineers. 

Binghamton finished with three players in the top six to take the team title by three strokes at 877 over Bowling Green in second with a score of 880. The Bearcats' 877 was the second-lowest three-round total in the event's history. Iona finished one slot ahead of the Mount in third place with a final total of 891. 

BGSU's Wes Gates held off the 62 other golfers in the field with a winning total of 213 as the only competitor to shoot under par for the tournament at -3. Gates finished three strokes ahead of his teammate, Joe Cooper, who used a final round 70 (-2) to move up from a tie for 11th to sole possession of second place at 216. 

This weekend, the Mount will head to Annapolis, Md. for the Navy Spring Invitational April 20-21.
