Mount Women's Swimming Battles Saint Francis U in 141-116 Defeat

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 12, 2013) – Junior Erin Regan and sophomore Haley Fournier both won two individual events and took second in another as the Mount battled four-time defending Northeast Conference champion Saint Francis U, but eventually fell by a 141-116 final on Saturday afternoon at the Mount Swimming Pool.

In the home opener for the Mount and the season opener for the Red Flash, the home team notched victories in four of the first eight events, but Saint Francis U took the lead and was able to hold on for the win.

Regan, who is a two-time All-NEC selection in the 200 butterfly, bested the field in the event on Saturday in 2:23.76, picking up where she left off last season. Regan went on to finish first in the 100 free in 59.67, and also took home second in the 400 free (4:44.29).

Fournier began the day with a victory in her first home event for the Mountaineers. The sophomore won the second race of the day, the 800 freestyle, in 9:05.41 to pick up an early nine points. Later in the day, Fournier also turned in the top time in the 200 breaststroke in 2:42.06, then had the second best time in the 200 IM in 2:29.56.

Senior Mollie Walsh's time of 27.81 was the best in the 50 freestyle on the day.

Picking up second place finishes in their home debuts were freshmen Sarah Bonson and Amanda Moore. Bonson placed second in the 800 free (9:40.99), while Moore took second in the 100 backstroke (1:08.74).

In the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay squad of Regan, Walsh, Moore and Allison Baker concluded the meet on a high note with a top time of 4:03.11.

The Mount will compete again versus McDaniel in Westminster, Md. on Oct. 26.
