ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais De Barcelone) finished tied for 12th to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a 14th-place standing after the first round of the Navy Invitational on Saturday.
In the last event before the Northeast Conference Championships, Aizpun posted a 36 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine to card a two-over round of 73 in the first round to finish in a 12-way tie for 12th place, three strokes behind the current leader.
Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (33rd place, 75), Danny Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (58th place, 77), Ryan Triller (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) (84th place, 80) and Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (90th place, 81) rounded out the Mount's five team competitors. Andrew Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (95th place, 82) is participating in the event as an individual.
George Washington leads the two-day event with a score of 291, one stroke ahead of Columbia (292) and Georgetown (292) while Penn (294) and Villanova (295) rounded out the Top-5 teams. The Mountaineers sit in 14th place with a score of 305.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action in the final round of the Navy Spring Invitational on Sunday.
