EMMITSBURG, Md. – Ryan Triller (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) finished second to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational on Tuesday.
Triller posted a pair of even-round scores of 72 to post a 144 on the first day and then recorded a 76 in the final round to card a 220. The freshman ended the competition in second place and two strokes behind the medalist.
Danny Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) finished third and one stroke behind Triller after recording a 74, 73 and 74 in the three rounds for a total of 221. Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais De Barcelone) (9th place, 229), Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (13th place, 233) and Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (18th place, 238) rounded out the Mount's five competitors.
Mount St. Mary's went into the final day of its home event with a two stroke lead after carding a 296 and a 295 on Monday. The Mount then posted a 311 on Tuesday while Robert Morris and Fairfield both notched rounds under 300 to finish ahead of the Mount. The Colonials won the event with a score of 887, 13 strokes ahead of the Stags (900) while the Mountaineers (902), Wagner (927) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (986) rounded out the five-team field.
Andrew Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) finished ninth as an individual after carding a three-round score of 229. Ryan Lee (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) (18th place, 238) also competed in the event as an individual.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action at the Navy Invitational on Saturday.
