EMMITSBURG, Md. – Ryan Triller (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) paced five Mount St. Mary's men's golfers in the Top-10 with a second-place finish to help the Mount to a first-place standing at the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational after the first day of the squad's home event on Monday.
Triller posted a pair of even-round scores of 72 to post a 144 after the first day and sit in second place, two strokes behind the current leader.
Danny Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) is three strokes behind Triller after carding a 74 and 74 for a three-over round of 148 to rank third. Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) sits in seventh place after posting a 75 and 74 for a total of 149 while Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais De Barcelone ) are tied for 10th with a score of 152. Ellison posted a 75 and 77 while Aizpun registered a pair of 76's in the two rounds.
The Mount leads the two-day three-round event with a score of 591, two strokes ahead of Robert Morris (593). The Mountaineers posted a 296 in the first round and a 295 in the second round. Fairfield (604), Wagner (619) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (652) rounded out the five-team field.
Andrew Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) finished eighth as an individual after carding an even-round score of 72 in the first round and a 79 in the second round for a two-round total of 151. Ryan Lee (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) (24th place, 164) also competed in the event as an individual.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action in the final round of the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational. Tee time is 8 a.m.
