SAVANNAH, Ga. – Danny Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) finished 12th to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a fifth-place standing at the Lonnie Barton Invitational on Tuesday. Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais De Barcelone) was the squad's top finisher in the event after placing fifth as an individual.
Michalek posted an 82 in the first round and a 76 in the second round to card a 158 in the two rounds to place 12th, 15 strokes behind the medalist. Aizpun posted an 80 and a 73 to finish with a total of 153 and in fifth place, 10 strokes behind the winner.
Andrew Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (19th place, 160), Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (23rd place, 161), , Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (25th place, 163) and Ryan Triller (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) (35th place, 171) rounded out the Mount's five team competitors.
High Point won the event with a two-day score of 605, 12 strokes ahead of Sacred Heart (617) while LIU Brooklyn (626), Robert Morris (630), the Mount (642), Fairfield (645) and Sacred Heart "B" (667) rounded out the seven-team field. The Mountaineers carded a 329 in the first round and a 313 in the final round to post a 642 in the event.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action at the Fireline Towson Invitational on Mar. 30.
