SAVANNAH, Ga. – Danny Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph), Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Andrew Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) finished tied for 17th to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a sixth-place standing after the first round of the Lonnie Barton Invitational on Monday. Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais De Barcelone) was the squad's top finisher on the day with a 12th-place standing as an individual.
Michalek, Ellison and Lawton each finished with a score of 82 to place 17th after the first round, 10 strokes behind the current leader. Aizpun posted an 80 in the first round to sit in 12th place and eight strokes behind the leader going into the final round.
Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (23rd place, 83) and Ryan Triller (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) (29th place, 85) rounded out the Mount's five team competitors.
Sacred Heart leads the two-day event with a score of 309, four strokes ahead of High Point (313) while Robert Morris (324), LIU Brooklyn (327), Fairfield (328), the Mount (329) and Sacred Heart "B" (332) round out the seven-team field.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action in the final round of the Lonnie Barton Invitational on Tuesday.
