Emmitsburg, Md. (March 17, 2012)-- Freshman Adam Salam celebrated his 19th birthday on Saturday, by going 4-0 on the day, and helping lead the Mountaineers to two huge conference wins over Robert Morris and St. Francis Pa.
Salam started the day by winning his singles match against the Colonials Horlle, 6-1, 6-3. The Mount also won at No. 1 and 4 singles, with Matthew Blake downing Neves, 6-1, 6-3. Salomon won four singles, beating Thompson, 6-4, 6-4.
The match was decided by the doubles tandem of Matthew Blake and Taylor place. The duo have been on a hot streak of late, and continued it by beating Neves and Haas 8-0 in the No. 1 spot. The team of Mike Salomon and Adam Salam also won by defeating Horlle and Limon, 8-2.
In the nightcap against St. Francis Pa., Salam continued his big day, with a singles win over Andres Rosa at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2. The Mount also got singles wins from Blake and Salomon. Blake downed Nate Fleming, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1, while Salomon beat Lawson Barter at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-2 decision.
The match again came down to doubles, as Blake and Place continued their winning ways, by beating Fleming and Rosa, 8-3. And it was the birthday boy Adam Salam and Mike Salomon beating Sergio Carvajal and Chris Jimenez, 8-3.
The Mount returns to action on Tuesday, with a home match against Bucknell. First serve is set for 3:00 PM.
