EMMITSBURG, Md. – Loyola defeated Mount St. Mary's 147-115 in non-conference women's swimming action on Saturday. It was the Mount's final meet of the season before the upcoming Northeast Conference (NEC) Swimming & Diving Championships.
Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) and Erin Regan (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) paced the Mount with two victories on the afternoon. Coppler won the 200 back (2:25.54) and the 200 IM (2:29.83) and placed second in the 100 back (1:07.85) while Regan took home first-place standings in the 800 free (9:32.41) and the 400 free (4:36.55) and finished third in the 200 fly (2:29.35).
Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and Patricia Yam (Placenta, Calif./Rosary) posted a first and a second against the Greyhounds. Yam won the 200 fly (2:26.34) by .02 seconds and placed second in the 100 fly (1:07.56) while Griffith beat Yam in the 100 fly (1:05.93) and finished second in the 200 free (2:12.70).
Anne Thelen (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) finished second in the 100 free (1:03.29) and third in the 100 breast (1:20.59) and third in the 50 free (28.91). Mollie Walsh (Havertown, Pa./John Carroll) placed second in the 50 free (27.88).
The relay team of Regan, Griffith, Walsh and Coppler won the 200-free relay (1:51.69). Coppler anchored the win after just winning the 200 IM in the previous event. Yam, Thelen, Griffith and Walsh teamed up to place second in the 400-medley relay (4:39.92).
Seniors Molly Kristiniak (Oreland, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) and Chelsea Marrocco (Old Bridge, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) were honored prior to the 200 IM. Kristiniak participated in the 400-medley relay, the 100 breast and the 200 breast in her final home meet. Marrocco did not swim in the competition. Graduate student Murphy Alafoginis (Lawrenceville, Pa./Wellsboro Area) also participated in her final regular season meet at the Mount and was honored last season.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action at the NEC Championships on Feb. 23 in Cambridge, Mass. Preliminaries will start at 11 a.m. with final starting at 7 p.m.
