EMMITSBURG, Md. - The Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team heads to the Northeast Conference (NEC) Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Cambridge section of Boston, Mass. Now in its sixth season in program history, the Mount looks to improve on its sixth-place standing last season in the three-day event.
During the regular season, sophomore Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) posted six Top-16 times. The sophomore posted the fourth-fastest time in the 200 IM (2:11.89) and Top-10 times in the 50 free (24.94), the 100 back (59.70), the 200 back (2:08.86) and a Top-16 time in the 400 IM (4:46.01).
Sophomore Patricia Yam (Placenta, Calif./Rosary) recorded the third-fastest time in the 100 fly (58.31), a Top-10 time in the 200 fly (22:11.45) and Top-16 marks in the 100 free (54.43), the 100 back (1:00.47) and the 200 back (2:21.91).
Freshman Erin Regan (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) ranks third on the team with four Top-16 times. The freshman has the second-best time in the 200 fly (2:06.99), a Top-10 time in the 500 free (5:12.14) and Top-16 times in the 1000 free (10:59.98) and the 1650 free (18:23.11).
Junior Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) has the second-best time in the 100 fly (57.94), the fourth-best mark in the 50 free (24.59) and the ninth-best time in the 100 free (54.06). Fellow junior has a Top-10 time in the 50 free (25.07) and Top-16 marks in the 100 free (55.01) and the 100 fly (1:00.27).
Freshman Anne Thelen (Raleigh, N.C./Archbishop Spalding) has the sixth-best mark in the 100 breast (1:09.15) and a Top-16 time in the 50 free (25.27).
Mount St. Mary's will go into the championships with the top time in the 200-free relay (1:38.39) and the second-best time in the 800-free relay (7:48.06).
Last season, Griffith became the first swimmer in program history to earn All-NEC honors with her second-place standing in the 100 fly (56.06). Yam also earned All-NEC recognition after placing third in the 200 fly (2:07.42).
The Mountaineers have finished ninth, fifth, sixth, fifth and sixth in its first five appearances at the NEC Swimming & Diving Championships.
