last time at that event... Sarah Roe won the Gettysburg Invitational to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's golf squad to the team championship at the event on Sept. 20. The 18-hole competition was played on the Mount's home course at the Quail Valley Golf Course. Roe posted the second-best single round in program history with a 76 to become the first Mount player since teammate Christina Hall won the Kutztown Spring Invitational on Apr. 18-19, 2008 to earn medalist honors. The junior won the event by one stroke. The Mountaineers won the event by 20 strokes after posting a 328 on the afternoon, the third-best single round in program history. It was the Mount's first team crown since winning the Kutztown Spring Invitational in 2008. The host Bullets finished second with a total of 348 while McDaniel (355), Alvernia (432), Susquehanna (432) and Franklin & Marshall (464) rounded out the team field. Dickinson participated in the event, but did not register a team score. Hall finished two strokes behind Roe to finish in third place with a score of 78, the sixth-best single-round mark in program history. Autumn Serruta also finished in the Top-10, placing seventh with a total of 84. Abbey Fry (11th place, 90) and Nicole Fazio (14th place, 92) rounded out the Mount St. Mary's team competitors. Freshman Rebecca Lynch made her collegiate debut as an individual in the event and finished 10th with a round of 89.

last time out…Sarah Roe placed 43rd to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's golf team to a 13th-place standing at the Towson Invitational. The event was the squad's first event of the 2011-12 slate. Roe posted an 84 in the first round and an 88 in the second round to register a two-round score of 172, 26 strokes behind the medalist. Christina Hall (43rd place, 172), Jen Kim (57th place, 177), Nicole Fazio  (65th place, 183) and Kelsey Hayward (67th place, 186) rounded out the Mount's five competitors. Kim and Hayward are making their collegiate debut in the event. Old Dominion won the two-day event with a score of 624, four strokes ahead of William & Mary (628) while St. John's (637), Columbia (640) and Hampton (654) rounded out the Top-5 teams in the field. The Mount posted a 349 in the first round and a 361 in the second round for a total of 710 and a 13th-place standing.

next on the green... The Mountaineers head to the Princeton Invitational on Sept. 24-25.

making their marks… Seniors Christina Hall and Sarah Roe have etched their names into the Mount record book. Sarah Roe holds the third-best single-round in program history after shooting a 76 at the Gettysburg Invitational last year to win the event. Roe also shot a 78 in her career to rank eighth on the chart. Hall has posted five marks on the single-round Top-10 including a 76 at the Mount St. Mary's Fall Classic in 2008. Hall also has three of the squad's Top-10 for two round scores and has the top mark for career average at the Mount (86.7) while Roe is in third place (87.2).

moving on up… As a team, the Mount women's golf team continued to make improvements in the last four years. During that stretch, the squad has posted all 10 of its Top-10 single rounds and nine of the 10 for two-round standards in program history. Last year, the squad averaged a program record 341.1 strokes per round.

new to the mountain... Joining first-year head coach Kevin Farrell in 2011-12 are freshmen Sarah Fuss, Kelsey Hayward and Jen Kim for their first year in Emmitsburg. Hayward and Kim will be making their collegiate debut at the Towson Invitational.

about the coach... Kevin Farrell begins his first season as the women's golf head coach in 2011-12 and will enter his third season at the helm of the men's golf team. Farrell was a standout golfer on the Mountaineers men's golf team from 2004-08. He finished in the Top-10 at the NEC Championships in both his junior and senior seasons to earn spots on the All-NEC team.  Farrell is one of five players in team history to earn finish in the Top-10 at the NEC Championships twice in his career and his three-round score of 220 at the 2008 NEC Championships is still the record for three rounds at the NEC Championships.
