CELEBRATION, Fla. - Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim
Township) posted a one-over round in the first round of the
Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Golf Championships to lead
the Mount St. Mary's men's golf to a third-place finish on
Thursday.
O'Grady started three of the first four holes with three bogeys
to post a 39 on the first nine holes. The freshman birdied hole No.
11 before posting bogeys on the 14th and 15th holes. O'Grady then
finished up strong by notching a birdie and an eagle on 17 and 18
to finish with a one-over 73. The freshman stands in fourth place,
two strokes behind the current leader.
Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) is one stroke behind O'Grady with a
74 and in ninth place. Hyre had four birdies on the day. Dan
Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (24th place, 77), Tonny
Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais De Barcelone) (39th place,
81) and Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (43rd
place, 82) rounded out the Mount's five competitors.
Sacred Heart leads the three-day invitational with a score
of 295, two strokes behind Robert Morris (297), the Mount (305),
Monmouth (305), Saint Francis (Pa.) (306), Long Island (306),
Central Connecticut State (306), Wagner (314), Fairleigh Dickinson
(315) and St. Francis (N.Y.) rounded out the 10-team field. The
round of 305 ranks eighth in team history at the NEC
Championships.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday for the second
round of the NEC Men's Golf Championships. The Mount will tee
off at 7:30 a.m.
