DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Sarah Roe (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park
Memorial) finished 15th in the first round at the Northeast
Conference (NEC) Women's Golf Championships to lead the Mount St.
Mary's women's golf team to a seventh-place standing on
Thursday.
Starting on the 10th tee, Roe posted a 42 on her first nine
holes and a 40 on her final nine holes to finish the first round in
15th place with a total of 82, eight strokes behind the current
leader and four strokes from the Top-10. Roe's round of 82 is the
seventh-best mark in program history at the championships.
Autumn Serruta (Avon, Conn./Avon) (20th place, 84), Megan
Corbett (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) (30th place, 87), Christina Hall
(Wall,N.J./Wall) (34th place, 88) and Nicole Fazio (Lower Gwynedd,
Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) (51st place, 98) also competed for the
Mountaineers.
Fairleigh Dickinson, the defending NEC champions, lead the
three-day event with a score of 310, seven strokes ahead of Sacred
Heart (317) while Saint Francis (Pa.) (324), Robert Morris (331),
Wagner (334), Monmouth (336), the Mount (341), Long Island (345),
Central Connecticut State (345), St. Francis (N.Y.) (371) and
Quinnipiac (411) round out the 11-team field. The Mountaineers
round of 341 is the fifth-best mark in program history at the
league championships.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action in the second round of the
NEC Championships on Friday. Fazio will be the first to tee off at
8:50 a.m. from the 10th tee and will be followed by Hall (9 a.m.),
Corbett (9:10 a.m.), Serruta (9:20 a.m.) and Roe (9:30 a.m.).
