LITTLESTOWN, Pa. - Dan Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St.
Joseph) finished sixth to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's
golf team to a fourth-place standing at the Mount St. Mary's Spring
Invitational on Tuesday.
Michalek came into the final round with a score of one over 145
after registering a 72 in the first round and a 73 in the second
round on Monday. The junior carded a four over round of 76 in a
rain-filled final round to finish with a score of 221, nine strokes
behind the medalist.
Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais De Barcelone)
finished in 10th place in his first home tournament with a score of
225. Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (18th place,
233), Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) (28th place, 239) and Andrew
Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (28th place, 239)
rounded out the Mount's team competitors.
Jake Wetzel (Blue Ridge Summit, Pa./Waynesboro Area) (20th
place, 234), Sage Smith (Denver, Colo./Brophy) (22nd place, 2345,
Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (33rd place, 242)
and Ryan Lee (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) (48th place, 254) competed as
individuals in the Mountaineers home event.
Monmouth won three-round event with a score of 896, two strokes
ahead of Fordham (898) while Robert Morris (908), the Mount (913)
and Fairfield (919) rounded out the Top-5 teams in the nine-team
field.
The Mount returns to the green when it travels to the Northeast
Conference Golf Championships starting on Apr. 29. The three-day
invitational will take place at the Mystic Dunes Resort and Golf
Club in Celebration, Fla.
