LITTLESTOWN, Pa. - Dan Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St.
Joseph) finished third after the first day of the Mount St. Mary's
Spring Invitational to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to
third-place standing on Monday. Teams competed in two continuous
rounds of 36 holes on the afternoon.
Michalek posted an even round of 72 in the first round and then
registered a one-over round of 73 in the second round to place
third with a score of 145 after the first day, five strokes behind
the current leader. Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais
De Barcelone) is three strokes behind Michalek in eighth place
after carding a 76 in the first round and a 72 in the second round
of the day.
Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (17th place,
152), Andrew Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (21st
place, 156) and Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) (38th place, 161)
rounded out the Mount's team competitors.
Sage Smith (Denver, Colo./Brophy) was the top individual
finisher with a 10th-place standing after shooting a 75 in the
first round and a 74 in the second round for a score of 149. Devin
O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (23rd place, 157), Jake
Wetzel (Blue Ridge Summit, Pa./Waynesboro Area) (32nd place, 159)
and Ryan Lee (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) (51st place, 172) also competed
as individuals in the Mountaineers home event.
Fordham leads the two-day, three-round event with a score of
593, five strokes ahead of Monmouth (598) while the Mount (601),
Fairfield (607) and Robert Morris (608) round out the Top-5 teams
in a nine-team field. The Mountaineers shot a 302 in the first
round and a 299 in the second round for a total of 601.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action in the final round of the
Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational on Tuesday. Shot gun start at
8:30 a.m.
