ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais
De Barcelone) finished 48th to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf
team to a 15th-place standing at the Navy Spring Invitational on
Sunday.
Aizpun posted a 77 in the first round for his second-best
collegiate round and then registered an 82 in the final round to
finish with a 159 in 48th place, 15 strokes behind the
medalist.
Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (55th place,
160), Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) (68th place, 162), Andrew Lawton
(Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (96th place, 171) and Dan
Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (103rd place, 175)
rounded out the Mount's competitors.
TCU won the two-day event with a total of 586, 11 strokes ahead
of Columbia (597), who came into the final round tied with TCU for
the lead. Lafayette (610), Rhode Island (611) and Navy (611)
rounded out the Top-5 teams. The Mountaineers finished 15th after
posting a 335 in the first round and a 312 in the second round for
a total of 647.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Monday when it hosts the
Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational at the Quail Valley Golf
Course in Littlestown, Pa. The event will be 36 holes on Monday and
a final round of 18 on Tuesday. Along with two teams from the
Mount, Robert Morris, Saint Peter's, Wagner, Fairfield, Fordham,
Rider, Monmouth and UMES will also participate in the Mountaineers
spring home tournament. Robert Morris won the event last year.
