ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais
De Barcelone) finished 15th in the first round to lead the Mount
St. Mary's men's golf team to a 17th-place standing at the Navy
Spring Invitational on Saturday.
Playing in heavy rain throughout the first round, Aizpun battled
through the weather conditions to notch his second-best round in
his collegiate career. The freshman registered a 40 on the front
nine and a 37 on the back nine to finish in 15th place with a score
of 77, four strokes behind the current leader.
Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (57th place,
82), Andrew Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (89th
place, 87), Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) (97th place, 89) and Dan
Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (104th place, 96)
rounded out the Mount's competitors.
TCU and Columbia are tied for the lead in the two-day event with
a total of 302 while Lafayette (307), Navy (310) and Loyola (311)
round out the Top-5 teams in the field. The Mount posted a 335 in
the first round to stand in 17th place going into the final
round.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday in the final round
of the Navy Spring Invitational.
