The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's tennis teams each posted
a pair of wins over the weekend. On Saturday, the women's
team swept Morgan State, 7-0, while the men downed the Bears,
5-2. Sunday, the men's team defeated Monmouth, 5-2, with the
women cruising past the Hawks, 7-0.
For the men, the Mount won five of six singles matches to earn
the 5-2 win against Morgan State. Matthew Blake earned a
hard-fought 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Eric Ward at No. 1 singles
with Mike Zabetakis winning in straight sets at No. 3. Taylor
Place and Patrick Plastow earned straight set wins at No. 4 and No.
5 singles while Andrew Marinucci won a pair of tiebreakers to win
at No. 6.
The Mount downed Monmouth, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon.
Zabetakis won 7-6, 6-2 over Ian Terpilowski at No. 3 singles while
Place was a 6-3, 7-5 winner at No. 4. The Mount's doubles
tandem of Mike Salomon and Zabetakis won 9-7 at No. 2 doubles to
secure the doubles point. The men's team has won three
consecutive matches to improve to 7-11 on the year.
On the women's side, the Mount lost just four games in a 7-0
sweep of Morgan State. Emily Bolchoz won 6-1, 6-2 at the No.
1 spot in the lineup. Samantha Pinchoff, Kelly Conroy, Carly
Landini, Emma Haley and Renee Deane all had 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in the
remaining singles matches. In doubles, Bolchoz and Deane won
8-1 at No. 1 while the No. 2 (Pinchoff and Conroy) and No. 3
(Landini and Haley) teams won 8-0.
Sunday, the Mount swept past Monmouth, 7-0, to move to 12-7 on
the season. Bolchoz won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles over Nicole
Lippens while Pinchoff won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Conroy,
Landini, Haley and Deane won in straight sets as well for the
Mount.
Mount St. Mary's has a pair of home matches this week before
heading to the Northeast Conference Tournament this weekend.
The Mount hosts Delaware at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Loyola at 3:00
p.m. on Wednesday.
