SAVANNAH, Ga. - Dan Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph)
stands in 17th place after the first round of the Lonnie Barton
Invitational to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a
seventh-place standing on Monday.
Michaelek shot a 78 in the first round of the Mount's first
event of the spring to sit seven strokes behind the current
leader.
Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais de Barcelone)
(31st place, 81), Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) (31st place, 81),
Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (31st place, 81)
and Sage Smith (Denver, Colo./Brophy) (51st place, 86) rounded out
the Mount's five competitors. Aizpun, who came to the Mount for the
spring semester, is making his collegiate debut in the event.
High Point leads the two-day event with a score of 299, one
stroke ahead of Sacred Heart (300) while Drexel (305), Fairfield
(312) and Long Island (312) round out the Top-5 teams in the
nine-team field. Mount St. Mary's sits in seventh place with a
total of 321.
The Mount returns to action on Tuesday in the final round of the
Lonnie Barton Invitational.
