Orlando, Fla. (March 6, 2011)--The Mount St.
Mary's men's and women's tennis teams opened their spring trip to
Florida with losses to Creighton on Sunday. The men's team lost
6-1 while the women's team fell 7-0. The women's team falls to 5-3
on the year while the men's team is now 3-4.
On the men's side, Mike
Salomon pulled out a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 come-from-behind win at No.
2 singles over J.T. Christian. Matthew
Blake was edged by Billy Paluch, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles
while Patrick
Plastow lost to Bryan Lube, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 5 singles. In
double play, Creighton (5-3) swept the three matches to earn the
point.
Emma
Haley and Carly
Landini posted a 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles against Sarah and
Leeah Cadwallader, but the Blue Jays were victorious in the other
two doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles, Emily
Bolchoz and Renee
Deane were edged by Anna Kirshenbaum and Analese Snyder,
8-6.
In singles play, Samantha
Pinchoff was downed 5-7, 6-4, 10-2 at No. 2 singles by Snyder
while Kelly
Conroy was edged by Kelsey Schmidt, 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 3
spot.
The Mount women return to action on Monday against NEC rival
Sacred Heart at 12 pm while the men's team will face Aquinas.
