Coppler-Griffith Tandem Leads Women's Swimming At Radford Invitational On Second Day

RADFORD, Va. – Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) and Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) each placed third in an individual event and helped the 800-free relay team place second to lead the Mounty St. Mary's women's swimming team to a seventh-place standing after 12 events at the Radford Invitational on Friday.

Coppler finished third in the 100 back (59.70) and Griffith was one of four Mount swimmers to earn points in the 100 fly (58.31) with a third-place standing. Coppler swam the opening leg of the 800-free relay team that finished second (7:48.06) and was followed by Erin Regan (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin), Griffith and Patricia Yam (Placenta, Calif./Rosary).

Along with Griffith in the 100 fly, Yam finished right behind the junior in fourth place (58.31) while Regan placed sixth (58.73) and Mollie Walsh (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) finished 16th in the event (1:01.38).

Anne Thelen (Raleigh, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) set a team record after finishing 12th in the 100 breast (1:09.66). Coppler, Thelen, Walsh and Griffith teamed up to place sixth in the 200-medley relay (1:50.27).

Along with Thelen's time in the 100 breast, the two relay teams also set team-record times.

Liberty leads the three-day event with a score of 508.5, 48.5 points against of Georgia Southern (460) while Campbell (458), Saint Francis (Pa.) (318), North Florida (316.5), Youngstown State (232), Mount St. Mary's  (204), Radford (137), Millersville (92) and North Carolina A&T round out the 10-team field.

The Mount returns to action in the final day of competition at the Radford Invitational on Saturday.
