EMMITSBURG, Md. – Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) and Patricia Yam (Placenta, Calif./Rosary) each won two events to pace the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team to seven individual victories and a pair of team wins in non-conference women's swimming action on Friday. The Mount beat Manhattan 115-76 and VMI 115-56 on the evening.
Coppler won the 400 IM (5:17.36) and the 100 fly (1:00.86) while Yam won the 200 free (2:15.52) and the 100 back (1:09.23).
The Mountaineers also posted wins by Mollie Walsh (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) in the 50 free (27.99), Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) in the 100 fly (1:06.24) and Erin Regan (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) in the 1500 free (19:06.74). Regan also placed second in the 100 fly (1:07.76).
Amanda Malmstrom (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) finished second in the 1500 free (19:36.24) and third in the 400 IM (5:44.59). Anne Thelan (Winston Salem, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) placed second in the 50 free (28.64) and Catherine Sukovich (Ringoes, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) finished third in the 100 free (1:05.39).
Coppler, Thelan, Yam and Walsh also teamed up to win the 400-medley relay (4:40.54) while Malmstrom, Murphy Alafoginis (Lawrenceville, Pa./Wellsboro Area), Nicole Helmick (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Jessica Gardner (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) placed second in the 200-free (2:01.38).
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday against Manhattan and McDaniel. Events start at 11 a.m.
