PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Kelsey Hayward (Seekonk, Mass./St. Mary's Academy) ranks 13th to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's golf team to a 17th-place standing after the first round at the Rutgers Invitational on Friday.
Hayward posted a 39 on the front nine and a 38 on the final nine holes to finish the opening round in 13th place after carding a career-low 77, four strokes behind the current leader. Hayward's 77 is the sixth-best single round in program history.
Sarah Roe (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) (64th place, 85), Christina Hall (Wall, N.J./Wall) (80th place, 88), Jen Kim (Blue Bell, Pa./Methacton) (90th place, 93) and Nicole Fazio (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) (94th place, 94) rounded out the Mount's five competitors.
Rutgers leads its own two-day event with a score of 303, two strokes ahead of Boston College (305) while St. John's (312), Seton Hall (315), Delaware (318) and Hartford (318) round out the Top-5 teams. The Mountaineers are tied for 17th after posting a 343 in the first round.
Mount St. Mary's concludes the fall slate in the final round of Rutgers Fall Invitational on Saturday.
