FARMVILLE, Va. - Freshman Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop
McDevitt) finished sixth to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf
team to a fourth place finish after two rounds at the Longwood
Manor Intercollegiate on Monday.
Ellison shot three over (75) in the first half and one over (73)
in the second round to finish the first day of competition in sixth
place with a two-round score of 148, seven strokes behind the
current leader. The freshman posted his two best scores of his
collegiate career after making his collegiate debut at the Turning
Stone Tigers Intercollegiate on Sept. 6.
Dan Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (11th place,
149), Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) (20th place, 153), Devin O'Grady
(Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (30th place, 157) and Jake Wetzel
(Blue Ridge Summit, Pa./Waynesboro Area) (43rd place, 172) rounded
out the Mount's competitors.
Longwood leads its own event with a two-round score of 575, 23
strokes ahead of High Point (598) while Loyola (605), the Mount
(607) and Hampden-Sydney (615) rounded out the Top-5 teams in the
nine-team field. The Mount posted a 308 in the first round and a
299 in the second round. Mount St. Mary's posted a round under 300
for the first time since the second round of the Rutger's
Invitational on Sept. 11, 2009.
The Mount returns to action in the final round of the Longwood
Manor Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
