ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and Dan Michalek
(Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) finished tied for 37th place to
lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a 15th-place standing
after the first round of the Navy Spring Invitational on
Saturday.
Hyre and Michalek shot identical scores of 40 on the front nine
and 38s on the final nine holes to finish in 37th place with a
round of 78, 11 strokes behind the current leader.
Brad Gerick (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) (61st place, 80),
Jeff Kingsbury (North Beach, Md./Northern) (80th place, 83) and
Sage Smith (Denver, Colo./Brophy) (89th place, 89) rounded out the
Mount's five competitors.
Navy leads the two-day competition with a score of 286, 10
strokes ahead of Columbia (296) while Bucknell (304), St.
Bonaventure (305) and West Chester (305) round out the Top-5 teams
in the 21-team field. The Mount sits in 15th place with a score of
319.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday in the final round
of the Navy Spring Invitational.
