Griffith Wins Two Events To Fuel Women's Swimming In Day Two Of Radford Invitational

RADFORD, Va. - Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) won two individual events and participated in two third-place relay teams to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team to a fifth-place standing after two days at the Radford Invitational on Friday. The squad posted program-record times in every event on the night except for the 100 breast. In addition, swimmers that placed in the Top-10 at Radford recorded Top-8 times for the Northeast Conference in one of the best nights at an invitational in program history.

Griffith, the current Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Week, won the 100 fly (57.36) and the 100 back (59.39), opened the third place 200-medley relay (1:57.72) and swam the final leg of the third place 800-free relay (7:54.91). In the first two days of competition, Griffith has posted two first-place finishes and a second-standing individually and has participated in one second and two third place relays.

In the 200-medley relay, Molly Kristiniak (Oreland, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy), Mollie Walsh (Havertown, Pa./Archbbishop John Carroll) and Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) swam the final three legs while Patricia Yam (Placenta, Calif./Rosary), Victoria Shaw (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Coppler opened up the 800-free relay.

Coppler was also in the "A" final with Griffith in the 100 fly and the 100 back, finishing in fourth place (59.18) and third place (1:01.01) respectively. Walsh joined the duo in the "A" final in the 100 back and placed seventh (1:02.33) while the freshman finished 10th in the 100 fly (1:00.28). Yam was fourth in the 400 IM (4:45.96) and fifth in the 200 free (1:58.58).

Yam, Jessica Gardner (Montgomery Village, Md./Warkins Mill), Shaw and Nicole Helmick (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) earned points for the Mount with a 14th-place standing in the 200-medley relay (2:08.45) while the relay team of Joanna Hale (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern), Murphy Alafoginis (Lawrenceville, Pa./Wellsboro Area), Chelsea Marrocco (Old Bridge, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) and Emily Dargay (Colver, Pa./Central Cambia) finished 12th in the 800-free relay (8:55.75).

Georgia Southern continues to lead the three-day event with a score of 662 while Youngstown State (546.5), Campbell (402.5), Radford (326), Mount St. Mary's (295), Liberty (214), Millersville (206) and North Carolina A&T (15) are also competing in the event. The Mount has 295 points in the first two days after posting 236 in three days at the Radford Invitational last year.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday in the final day of the Radford Invitational.
