BALTIMORE, Md.- Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) won
two individual events to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming
team to a 148-117 win against Howard on Saturday in Baltimore.
Loyola downed the Mount, 160-120. The Mountaineers improved to 8-2
on the year.
Coppler, who has started her collegiate career by winning her
first eight individual events, continued her success on Saturday
with a first-place finishes in the 50 free (25.37) and in the 200
IM (2:17.53). The freshman also swam the opening leg of the winning
200-free relay (1:42.09) and the final leg of the third place
400-medley relay (4:15.83).
Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) took over for
Coppler in the 200-free relay before Mollie Walsh (Havertown,
Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) and Joanna Hale (Voorhees,
N.J./Eastern) completed the relay victory. Walsh, Molly Kristianiak
(Oreland, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy) and Patricia Yam (Placenta,
Calif./Rosary) swam the first three legs of the 400-medley
relay.
Griffith also won the 100 fly (59.75) and finished second in
both the 200 free (1:59.36) and the 100 free (54.36). Yam posted a
first-place standing in the 200 fly (2:10.24) while finishing
second in the 200 IM (2:18.45) and third in the 200 back (2:18.44).
Victoria Shaw (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) notched the
Mount's first victory of the afternoon after taking first in the
1000 free (11:49.46).
Along with being a member of the winning 200-free relay, Walsh
finished second in the 100 back (1:03.89) and second in the 200
back (2:16.95). Hale finished third in the 500 free (5:46.65) and
Emily Dargay (Colver, Pa./Central Cambria) was third in the 1000
free (13:22.09).
Mount St. Mary's returns to action at the Radford Invitational
starting on Friday.
